As I take a moment to reflect on my journey as a woman business owner, I am struck by the mix of challenges, triumphs, and moments of personal growth that have shaped both my professional and personal lives. Balancing the demands of running WorkAway Solutions with my role as VP of Operations for an orthopedic wellness company has been one of the most rewarding—and at times, challenging—experiences of my career. Today, I want to share some insights from that journey.
Embracing the Early Days
Starting WorkAway Solutions was born from a simple yet powerful idea: create a third space where professionals could escape the isolation of a traditional office or the distractions of a home environment. In those early days, the energy was palpable. I remember the excitement of building something from scratch and the long hours spent refining our vision. As a woman stepping into the world of entrepreneurship, I quickly learned that resilience and a willingness to learn are essential tools for success.
Balancing Roles
One of the unique challenges—and privileges—of my career has been managing demanding roles simultaneously. My most important role as a solo mama of three, now young men, has always been the driving force behind everything else that I do. Since 2017, I’ve led WorkAway Solutions, a coworking space dedicated to fostering community, collaboration, and innovation. In addition, I work full time as the VP of Operations for an orthopedic wellness company, where the pace is fast and the stakes are high.
Navigating these roles has taught me invaluable lessons in time management, prioritization, and the importance of building a reliable team. Success doesn't come from trying to do everything at once but from focusing on what matters most and trusting others to support the journey.
Lessons from Inspiring Others
One of my greatest joys is inspiring fellow business owners, especially those just starting out. I relish the opportunity to share my experiences in navigating startup challenges, solving complex business problems, and staying ahead of trends—whether that's the latest in SEO or innovative tools to streamline operations. There's something profoundly rewarding about mentoring others, watching them overcome their hurdles, and knowing that my own journey has helped light their path.
I’ve had the pleasure of witnessing a vibrant spectrum of professionals walk through our doors—from solopreneurs and medical students preparing for board exams to psychotherapists transitioning from full-time roles into private practice. We've hosted hiring events, language tutoring sessions, nonprofit board meetings, legal depositions, and so much more. Each encounter reminds me that our space is more than just desks and meeting rooms; it’s a hub of opportunity and connection.
Personal Triumphs and Family Milestones
Beyond the professional sphere, my personal life has been a source of continual inspiration. Watching my sons grow into confident, independent adults has enriched my life in ways I never imagined. I'm incredibly proud that one of them has embarked on his own entrepreneurial journey by starting a roofing business. Their successes—and even their departures as they move on to new professional adventures, sometimes out of state or into elevated roles—reflect the dynamic nature of growth and the importance of embracing change.
Reflections on the Future
Today, I stand at a juncture where every challenge has taught me a lesson, and every success has paved the way for new opportunities. The road ahead is filled with promise, and I am more committed than ever to nurturing a space where innovation, collaboration, and balance are not just ideals, but realities.
As I continue to balance my roles, mentor emerging entrepreneurs, and learn from both triumphs and setbacks, I am inspired to push forward—always with the vision of creating spaces that empower others to reach their full potential.
Thank you for taking this journey with me. Whether you’re a fellow business owner, an aspiring entrepreneur, or someone seeking a supportive coworking space, I invite you to connect, share your stories, and grow together. The path is challenging, but it’s filled with opportunities to learn, inspire, and make a difference.
Here’s to continuing the journey—one lesson at a time.
